The Connected Degree 2+2 Curriculum
Delaware Tech's associate degree program in Human Services prepares the student for a rewarding career helping people who are experiencing personal and socialization problems. Through the program, students acquire knowledge of important theories in counseling psychology and human development in order to serve individuals and groups experiencing needs related to poverty, abuse, neglect, mental illness, disability, crime, unemployment, illness, discrimination, divorce, aging, and family dysfunction. They also learn how to link people with services such as education or training, financial assistance, child care, shelter, addictions treatment, mental health services and senior services. Graduates have the educational foundation to successfully gain entry level human services positions in both the private and public sectors, and to pursue a bachelor's degree. Springfield College's School of Professional and Continuing Studies offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services that enables the student to build leadership skills to serve the community, develop critical thinking and social analysis skills, learn about the history and future of human services, and integrate theory and practice in classroom, workplace, and community. Human services is a broad field spanning professions in the non-profit and public sectors in such areas as alcohol and drug abuse prevention and treatment, mental health and elder care, social and welfare reform, youth work and early childhood development, law enforcement, corrections, and probation. Springfield College Wilmington is proud to have educated human service workers at every level including advocates, assistants, coordinators, managers, supervisors, directors, CEOs, officers, and founders.
