Human Services to Social Work

An opportunity to gain an associate degree from Delaware Tech and a bachelor's degree from Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

Your Path to a Bachelor's Degree

Delaware Tech has established agreements with four-year colleges and universities that connect Delaware Tech associate degree programs with bachelor's degree programs to create smooth transfer opportunities for you. These Connected Degree programs enable you to complete your associate degree and then transfer to a four-year degree program as a junior.

The Connected Degree 2+2 Curriculum

Delaware Tech's associate degree program in Human Services prepares the student for a rewarding career helping people who are experiencing personal and socialization problems. Through the program, students acquire knowledge of important theories in counseling psychology and human development in order to serve individuals and groups experiencing needs related to poverty, abuse, neglect, mental illness, disability, crime, unemployment, illness, discrimination, divorce, aging, and family dysfunction. They also learn how to link people with services such as education or training, financial assistance, child care, shelter, addictions treatment, mental health services and senior services. Graduates have the educational foundation to successfully gain entry level human services positions in both the private and public sectors, and to pursue a bachelor's degree. Social Work majors at Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) are taught by faculty who are actively engaged in practice, volunteer work and research in their major fields. Students are exposed to fieldwork early, gaining experience from three field placements throughout their college career in both urban and rural settings. Coursework includes important exposure to diverse population groups such as a growing Latinx community, urban youth, and families. MVNU also offers opportunities for international field practicum experience. A bachelor's degree in Social Work is the first step to becoming a Licensed Social Worker (LSW).
