Nursing

Thuyvi Le is a nursing major at the Terry Campus in Dover. She is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society and the Student Nurses Association.

Le chose to pursue nursing because of her desire to help others and her passion for children.

"The pivotal point for me was when I had my daughter. I remember all the different emotions I felt as I was being rushed into an emergency C-section. My nurse was the constant that kept me calm and comfortable," said Le. "I'll never forget the way that nurse made me feel during a time when I was shaking, nervous, and scared. From then on, I was really inspired to pursue my dream in nursing."

Delaware Tech was the best choice for Le because of its nursing program's esteemed reputation. Additionally, Le valued the diversity she found within the College's community.

"I chose this campus in particular because it embodies diversity in its program. I believe that diversity is important in all aspects of learning."

It was important for Le to attend college because of her children. "I want to set an example for my kids that if you set your mind to something, you can achieve it no matter what obstacles you go through to get there."

As a student who experienced high-risk pregnancies that forced her to take a break from her college, Le is no stranger to obstacles.

"There were times when I didn't think I could do it with three kids and health issues. I felt like so much time had passed and that it would be hard to get back into the routine of studying," she said. "However, my kids motivate me each day to pursue my dream. I'm thankful for all the support from my nursing advisor, Dr. Mundell, my nursing instructors, and, most importantly, my family."

For students looking to improve their academic performance, Le advises to use all accommodations provided by Delaware Tech. During her pre-requisite days, she revealed that she practically lived in the tutoring center on campus to get through her Anatomy and Physiology course. She also recommends utilizing the instructors for additional support, because they are willing to go above and beyond to help their students.

Le's favorite memories from her time at Delaware Tech have all been spent with her classmates. "By the end of the semester, I feel like we know more about our classmates than we know about some of our family members. We go through so much together as nursing students. It's definitely a special bond that we'll have forever."

Since beginning her studies at the College, Le acknowledges how the nursing program has affected her. "I have definitely come out a different person from when I started. The Delaware Tech nursing program has given me all the tools I need to be a confident and outstanding nurse."

Le's plan after graduation is to work as a labor and delivery nurse or in pediatrics. Her dream is to spend time in the NICU and then go on to become a nurse practitioner.
